This week's gangster movie review and up this time we have the 2001 made for TV movie Boss of Bosses.
Boss of Bosses is a 2001 American made-for-TV movie about the life of former Gambino crime family boss Paul Castellano directed by Dwight H. Little.
It stars Chazz Palminteri as Paul Castellano, Patricia Mauceri as his wife Nina, Mark Margolis as Joseph Armone, and Angela Alvarado as his mistress Gloria Olarte.
The story begins with Paul Castellano's early life growing up disenchanted with the working class lifestyle, as he is introduced to the lure of easy money and the world of crime by his cousin Carlo Gambino.
Chazz Palminteri probably wouldn't have been my first choice to play Paul Castellano, however he is dependable as always. I have been a big fan of Palminteri since The Usual Suspects(1995).
To be honest the main let down of the movie is some of the supporting cast is slightly weak such as the character of John Gotti.
Some of the actors don't really seem to fit the characters they are playing, although Angela Alvarado is good as Castellano's maid Gloria Olarte.
Too much of the movie is on the relationship of Paul Castellano and his maid Gloria, where as I would have preferred the film to be slightly more mob-related.
The movie ultimately culminates with the iconic murder of Paul Castellano outside Sparks steakhouse, as he was double crossed by his own soldiers.
Maybe not the best mafia movie in cinema history, but definitely an enjoyable way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon, especially if you are a fan of the Paul Castellano story.
